Evercreech New

Evercreech New is the latest 4mm layout currently being constructed by club members.

The station was a small wayside station on the Somerset & Dorset railway; it had a very simple track plan with two sidings, serving a small goods shed on one side and a large lime kiln on the other. The station consisted a small station building on one platform and an open waiting shelter on the other, with the signal box on the platform

The layout was acquired by the club in a partially built state, the baseboards had been constructed and track laid but it was decided to completely rebuild the fiddle yard boards in order to add more roads and some of the main scenic boards were rebuilt to ease track curvature and to include an under bridge.

Track used is from SMP with the five points being constructed using copper clad sleepers, track within the fiddle yard is Peco code 75. Points within the fiddle yard are operated by peco point motors, while those on the main layout use the wire in tube method.

Train control can be either DC or DCC.

The layout was first shown at our show in Eastleigh in January 2016 although far from complete it was well received. Since then much progress has been made on completing the scenery, this is ongoing.

Mock ups of the building have been made.

It is hoped to be completed in time for our next show in January 2017

The track has been ballasted, the goods shed will be on the right and the lime kilns on the left

Carpet underlay has been glued to the contoured baseboard and is now being painted with water colours

The fiddle yard allows five train in each direction

Despite on going construction trains are still running through the station

Although this loco is unlikely to have been seen on the S&D this photo does show how the scenery has progressed
